Our

Story

We are Abas and Safia, and we own a family homestead on three acres of land in Janda Baik, Pahang, called Tirtha Quddus

Before we embarked on this adventure in 2015, we were both city dwellers and becoming increasingly frustrated with urban life.

Abas

It all started with my childhood dream of owning a farm with horses and chickens, but I never really found the time. However after learning about permaculture, I was inspired to start the farm with the intention to tend the earth, which I realised was a natural and deep calling in humans. Learning to grow our own food was a big step away from buying whatever we needed from shops and restaurants. At the same time, we wanted to give our children the chance to be close to nature, which, as it turned out, was not an easy or straightforward process.

Most importantly, I needed to get Safia fully on board our homesteading dream.

Tirtha Quddus has connected me with an absolute dependence on God, whether it is for sunshine or rain, or the realisation that it was the birds that grew most of the trees on the land, or the wonder at fishes that somehow appeared soon after I dug my first pond. As for the horses? They’re still a dream.

Abas, Safia & Family

Safia

It took about three years for Abas to convince me to move permanently to the farm. I am a creative and I enjoyed the art and business of floristry, creating beautiful floral arrangements and gifts out of my flower shop in the city. But eventually, and after the passing of my beloved father, I realised that this was the time to embrace the farm as the next adventure in my life. Most days, you’ll find me in my weathered sun hat and trusty wellies, planting vegetables, flowers and trees, brewing kombucha, designing retreats and dreaming up more ways to be creative here at Tirtha Quddus.
